Celebrating Black History Month

February is nationally recognized as Black History Month - a time to honor, celebrate, and reflect on the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black Americans throughout history. What began in 1926 as "Negro History Week," founded by historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, has grown into a month-long observance dedicated to recognizing the profound impact of Black leaders, innovators, educators, activists, and community members who have shaped our nation.

Black History Month is not only a time of remembrance, but also a time of continued learning, unity, and progress. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the strength and perseverance demonstrated throughout history while recommitting ourselves to equity, opportunity, and community advancement.

At the Williamston Housing Authority, we recognize the importance of honoring diverse histories and perspectives. We encourage everyone to take time this month to learn more about Black history, engage in community events, and reflect on how we can contribute to a more inclusive future.

"Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history." - Dr. Carter G. Woodson

Let us use this month as a time to celebrate achievements, foster understanding, and strengthen our commitment to serving and uplifting our entire community.
